St. James's CBS - Leinster College's Football Championship Winners 1956 (Secondary School)
In 1956 St. James's CBS won the Leinster Colleges Senior Football Championship. The final was held in Newbridge , where we defeated by a single point the fancied favourites Ballyfin Presentation College , Co. Laois. On the way to this historic victory we overcame opposition from Synge St CBS in Dolphins Park, Good Counsel (New Ross (Arklow) & St Marys CBS in Mullingar to reach the final. (See newspaper match report below and the drama after the game when the Referee had recorded the score incorrectly.) Our Captain on the day was Eamonn Burgess who played for the Dublin Minors and won an All Ireland medal with that team in 1955.
