In 1956 St.James's CBS qualified for their first ever Herald Cup Final. At that time the Herald Cup was the premier trophy in Primary School hurling. Their opponents in the final were Marino CBS who had already won the Herald Cup on 10 previous occasions. Needless to say, Marino were red hot favourites to lift the trophy against a Jambo team appearing in the final for the first time. However, once again a Jambo team upset the odds and had a resounding victory in beating Marino 9-7 to 5-4. It was a remarkable win and this team brought the Herald Cup Trophy to Jambo for the first time ever.
